Mirrors for New Zealand
Mylar glassless mirrors. Lighter, safer and brighter than glass.
Mirrorlite Mylar mirrors are the studio mirror STM ships to New Zealand. They are 85% lighter than glass, completely shatterproof, virtually fog-free, and you can install them yourself. Wall-hung panels, rollaway frames and demonstration mirrors.

Glass mirrors in New Zealand
STM no longer supplies glass studio mirrors or glass rollaways in New Zealand, because we no longer have an office and crews there. Nationally we supply lightweight Mylar glassless mirrors, which are an easy DIY installation and have higher reflectivity than glass. If glass is preferred, we are happy to brief a local glazier of your choice on best practice for the robust environment of a studio, and our mirror wall brackets work with glazier-fitted glass.
The material
What a Mylar mirror is
A Mylar mirror is a polyester film stretched over a raised aluminium frame with a lightweight polyurethane backing. The film is a front-surface reflector, which is why the image is brighter and free of the ghosting you see in the edge of back-silvered glass. The air space behind the film is ventilated through the core, so the mirror stays virtually free of condensation in pools, bathrooms and hot yoga studios.
Mirrorlite Mylar mirrors are not suitable where objects may be flying, as the film is fragile to sharp impact. For everything else in a dance, Pilates, gym, physio, school or theatre setting, they are the safest mirror available.

Wall hung
Wall-hung Mylar mirror panels
From $27.50 AUD to $2,520 by size, ex freight
Panels hang on STM mounting brackets with little or no wall preparation. Because there is so little weight, wall inserts and heavy supports are eliminated, and the mirror can be taken down and moved when you move.
- Range of panel sizes; combine panels for a full mirror wall
- Mount directly to finished plaster, wood panelling or interior partitions
- Ideal for home studios, hot yoga, pools, physio rooms and schools
- Imperfect panels are sometimes available at a discount; ask when you enquire

Rollaway
Rollaway Mylar mirrors
From $2,045 AUD to $3,170 by size, ex freight
Our glassless mirrors are also available as freestanding rollaway mirrors for studios and halls that need to move or store their mirror. STM now ships Mylar rollaways from Australia to New Zealand.
- Reflective film on a steel frame with castors; light enough for one person to move
- Eight practical sizes stocked (see table below)
- Optional mirror cover in 300 gsm black Molton to protect the surface in storage
Rollaway Mylar mirror sizes
Because the film must be super-stretched to achieve its reflectivity, STM stocks the most practical sizes.
| Height × width | Height × width |
|---|---|
| 1.5 m × 0.6 m | 1.8 m × 1.5 m |
| 1.8 m × 0.9 m | 2.4 m × 0.9 m |
| 1.8 m × 1.2 m | 2.4 m × 1.2 m |
| 1.8 m × 1.8 m | 2.4 m × 1.5 m |

Demonstration
Demonstration mirrors
From $1,865 AUD to $3,340, ex freight
Overhead mirrors for classrooms, science labs, cooking demonstrations and event cooking shows. STM recommends Mylar for demonstration work: the image is high quality, the weight on the ceiling or stand is minimal, and the film does not fog from a steaming pot or a Bunsen burner.
- Ceiling fixed, chain hung or demountable on stands for different locations
- Used in classrooms across Australia and hired for film and TV commercials
- DIY installation with STM’s mounting hardware and instructions

Accessories
Mirror covers and Mylar Magic repair tape
Covers $155 to $240 AUD · repair tape $40 AUD
Protect the surface when the mirror is not in use, and keep a roll of repair tape on hand. The covers are made from 300 gsm inherently flame-retardant black Molton wool, which shields the film from scratches, flying objects and dust build-up.
- Cloth mirror covers sized to STM rollaway frames
- Mylar Magic tape patches small holes; the patch will not match full reflection, but it keeps the mirror in service
- Wrinkles can be relaxed with a heat gun following STM’s video guide

Mylar questions
Living with a glassless mirror.
What is a Mylar glassless mirror?
A highly reflective polyester film stretched over a raised aluminium frame with a lightweight polyurethane backing. Mirrorlite Mylar mirrors are 85% lighter than glass, completely shatterproof, virtually fog-free and give about 20% better reflectivity than glass with a ghost-free, distortion-free image.
Can I install a Mylar mirror myself?
Yes. Because the panels are so light, no wall inserts or heavy supports are needed. Mount directly to finished plaster, wood panelling or interior partitions using STM’s mounting brackets. Mounting hardware and instructions ship with every New Zealand order.
How do I clean a Mylar mirror?
Remove loose dust first with a feather duster, synthetic duster or compressed air so grit does not scratch the film, then wipe gently. Never use abrasive cloths or harsh chemicals. Small punctures can be patched with Mylar Magic repair tape, and wrinkles can be relaxed with a heat gun following STM’s guide.
Does STM supply glass mirrors in New Zealand?
No. Since closing its New Zealand office and crews, STM no longer supplies glass studio mirrors or glass rollaways in NZ. We supply lightweight Mylar glassless mirrors and can advise your local glazier on best practice for glass.
